"It's a squeeze, we'll lift her over the top"

One changeable afternoon in July Caress finally made her way back to the water. Each stage of the journey is depicted in this brief sequence of pictures which, in its sparsity, conceals the true extent of the effort afforded by a team of highly skilled operators.

We are massively grateful to Emma, Leon and Peter of

T H Quirk Plant Hire who arranged and conducted this journey from the ground, through the sky, along the highway to water. Their joint enthusiasm and expertise are stoutly appreciated.

Sincere thanks are also due to Whispering Reeds boatyard at Hickling. To owner John for allowing us to truck Caress into his yard and crane her into his dyke, to Phil for ensuring that our way was clear and we couldn't damage anyone's car or boat! All this had been organised in advance of our arrival and Caress's way to launch was swift and smooth.

Thanks also for your concern for the reckless skipper... who became sufficiently soaked by the well-timed downpour that a paddle in Hickling Broad wouldn't have mattered. In the eventuality Caress managed to keep most of the river water on the outside and has since continued to heal her dry wounds.
